Who We Are

Interview

The Centre for Media Ethics (CME) is a capacity-building, policy-advocacy, and research organisation established in 2024 to sensitise legacy media practitioners on ethical journalism practices.

CME responds to misinformation, declining professional standards, sensationalism, and eroding public trust in media institutions.

CME promotes probity, integrity, transparency, and accountability in journalism while strengthening the media’s watchdog role.

Mission

To champion ethical journalism and media practices by promoting accurate, unbiased, and insightful content that informs, educates, and empowers society.

What We Do

Media Professionalism

Media Professionalism

The general public need reliable information that would enable them to make informed decisions.

They require media products that educate and entertain without leading audiences into a benighted state.

CME supports the production of accurate, ethical, and public-interest-driven media content in Ghana.

Responsible AI Adoption

Responsible AI Adoption

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has permeated every facet of journalism, from story generation to dissemination. The need for responsible AI adoption in newsrooms cannot be over‑emphasized.

The International Organization for Standardization defines responsible AI as the practice of developing and using AI systems in a way that benefits society while minimizing the risk of negative consequences.

While AI can enhance journalists’ work by saving time, expanding reach, and improving reporting, irresponsible use may amplify bias, misinformation, and disinformation.

Cases such as Microsoft’s AI content editor producing racist output in 2020 and the Los Angeles Times’ Quakebot falsely reporting an earthquake illustrate these risks.

CME works with Ghana’s media and the Government of Ghana to promote ethical, transparent, and accountable AI adoption in newsrooms.

Media Support

Audiences

Audiences

As society’s watchdog, the media wield significant power which can be abused if unchecked.

CME works with media audiences to demand accountability and strengthen ethical awareness.
